Who is it for?
The Diamond elite test is ideal for anyone wishing to take their driving to the next level and beyond the Diamond advanced test. You may have a keen interest in driving, be a member of a car club or drive extensively for work, whatever your reason this test will make you a safer and more knowledgeable driver.
The Diamond elite test is ideal for ADIs wishing to enhance their career. The elite test forms part of the DIA’s accredited fleet course and will give you the knowledge and experience to take your driving to the highest level. Being able to demonstrate a professional level of driving including commentary driving to potential clients and CEOs is an important element of fleet training.
CPD forms an important part of an ADIs career and taking the elite test will make sure your own driving is up to a high standard when training clients from all walks of life and abilities.
What can I expect on the day?
When you book your Diamond test, you will receive email confirmation of your booking. Your details will then be passed on to an examiner local to you, who will contact you within 2 working days to arrange a mutually convenient meeting place. The Diamond elite test lasts for 90 minutes and covers a variety of roads and where possible motorways, rural areas and an emergency stop exercise. You will be expected to do at least 2 manoeuvres involving reversing, demonstrate eco-safe driving and a commentary drive for approximately 15-20 minutes.
A pass will be awarded if you achieve no serious or dangerous faults and you do not exceed 2 driver faults in the same category.
What are the benefits?

Diamond trainers focus on defensive and eco driving techniques, which in the long term means fewer accidents and loss of no claims benefits etc. Companies and fleet drivers can expect to save money through a reduction in claims and accidents. Drivers are safer and better equipped to cope under pressure, which in turn creates a healthier working environment with less time taken off for sickness and stress.
Having a Diamond elite test certificate may give you substantial discounts on your insurance. Be sure to mention your elite test pass to your insurance company to see if they can quote you an appropriate discount. Your Diamond certification is valid for 3 years.
How does the Diamond training and examining system work?
If you are looking to start with some Diamond training in the first instance our Diamond team will be happy to help you look for the right trainer in your area. You will be given a selection of trainers who you can contact to discuss your individual needs.
Should you wish to take any of our Diamond tests you can use our contact form or call the Diamond team on 020 8253 0120 and we will allocate an examiner to you based on your requirements. You may have already been recommended a particular examiner by your trainer, in this instance we will of course be happy to discuss your individual preferences at the time of your booking.
All our Diamond examiners and trainers are fully qualified ADIs. Our examiners have had extensive training with the DIA in the area of expertise and adhere to the DIA Code of Conduct.

I have been an ADI for many years, too many to count really but it is coming up to 20 years. I have dipped in and out of various training courses and assignments to keep myself up to date with this ever changing industry.
One aspect of my CPD which I have not always addressed is the practical side of things. Many years ago I took a Diamond advanced test around the time of completing my Diploma in Driving Instruction and I remember really enjoying updating and refreshing my skills.
Earlier this year I have become much more involved in fleet work out on the road and decided it was time to refresh my own skills. I decided to look at some Diamond driver training along side some work with IAM. Both companies offer advanced driving and I wanted a balanced view of the industry in terms of the differences in the tests and what suitable training, I can offer my clients in the workplace.
The Diamond elite test has helped me to seriously brush up on my driving skills, with the marking system being in line with the Cardington marking and testing. Passing the elite test has also given me confidence when dealing with CEOs and fleet decision makers in my area, I no longer worry about demonstrating a high standard of driving with commentary, thank you to the Diamond team for all their help and guidance.
